Downloading files from TiVo
I am guilty of loving Plex and the various media files it can play. When it comes to a DVR I like downloading files from TiVo (Tablo in my case) and storing them in the event I have the urge to watch them again in the future. (You can also download files from your TiVo DVR to your iOS or Android device) I have a bunch of content, I have watched a good amount of Movies and TV shows and YouTube videos (I have actually downloaded all the YouTube videos I like or feel as though I might watch a second time) So in essence I am a collector. Although I don’t have a TiVo (I’m a Tablo guy) I download the recordings off it and to on the drives that store all the media for my Plex server. TiVo has the “Desktop software for the PC” called TiVo desktop software, It allows you to see all recordings on your TiVo device. The software will also download episodes of a TV show that you are recording and automatically download it once it’s recorded. TiVo has instructions that can be found here. I had issues getting the “Desktop Software” on Tivo’s website but I was able to go on YouTube and atleast view some people actually getting the dvr’d videos (Doubt that helps you) So in that case maybe TiVo’s website will be helpful in the future or you will read this and keep your TiVo disks at arms reach before getting tossed or buried in the things “to be stored and forgotten”.
In addition to the Software that TiVo provides there is also kmttg. It is a Java based program that assists with the transferring and formatting of the TiVo recordings. One thing that makes this appealing is that it includes commercial detection and deletion. Another nice thing is that it will automatically create closed captions files.
