News – History Channel comes to Roku
According to Beta News History Channel’s “Vault” aka older shows has been added to Roku and will now have a monthly fee of 4.99$ associated with it. This news can be seen here.
If you do a search on Roku it shows the History Vault and History/H2 channels. It also mentions the History Vault being 4.99$ with a 7 day trial for free. There is the mention of hundreds of hours of Curated content. There is mention of hundreds of topics including civil war, military strategies and ancient architecture. Roku also talks about Legendary leaders, Presidents and Ancient Discoveries. It mentions topics, apparently their are three popular collections as well as, Editor’s Picks, Most Popular and Recently Added. To access this you need only pay the monthly fee and it doesn’t matter if you have a TV Provider to access it. (many channels can only be accessed if you pay a TV provider already) The Vault channel is going to be exclusively available to the Roku platform. With access to this channel you get commercial free content.
If you do a search on History you can get instructions to download the Roku app for the History/H2 channels but nothing is said about a monthly fee or the Vault channel. History does not mention charging at all and I have been rather frustrated by clips being available and a very limited selection of full shows. Since I haven’t had time to check out Vault I can’t say whether that has alleviated frustrations I have had with the regular History channel. History has been advertising how H2 is going to be changing to Viceland, so it will be seen how in the future the History app will reflect those changes.
